The Outland Gateway is the networking application that enables users to connect to Outland through the Internet or by modem. Download this file if you do not want the complete set of Outland games.
Outland is a graphical multiplayer game network for Macintosh users. This initial public release is part of our testing process to work out the remaining glitches. All access is free until the final release. Currently, the applications we have available are Spaceward Ho, Chess, Reversi, Backstab, and a graphical BBS.
You can connect to Outland if your Mac has Internet access using MacTCP, or if you dial our modems in Palo Alto, California. Other dial-up sites will be available soon.

Before installing any Outland software, please read the Terms of Service file. If you do not agree to the Outland Terms of Service and License, do not use the Outland software.

MacTCP or a 2400+ baud modem
INSTALLATION:
1. After decompressing the archive, you will see the Outland Gateway folder containing a Tools folder, the Gateway application, and two text files.
2. If you are an Internet user, move the file in the Tools folder called Outland TCP Tool into the Extensions folder in your System folder.
3. If you are a modem user, move the file in the Tools folder called Outland CCL Modem Tool into the Extensions folder in your System folder. If your modem needs an additional settings file, place it there also.
4. Move the Outland Gateway anywhere on your hard disk. You may want to create a folder for it to live in.
5. If you separately download any Outland Games, create a folder called 'Outland Games' in the same folder as the Gateway. Move the games to this new folder before connecting to Outland. (The Gateway can download any additional games once you are connected to the network.)
CONNECTING TO OUTLAND:
1. Open up your Outland folder and run the Outland Gateway. The first time you run the Gateway, go to Connection Settings under the File menu.
a) If you are calling Outland’s modems in Palo Alto, select Outland CCL Modem Tool from the Method popup menu. In the Phone text entry box, type 325-9904 or 1-415-325-9904. Under the Modem pop-up menu, select an appropriate modem setting. Some high-speed modems may require special settings files, like the ones used with AppleTalk Remote Access. Settings files for common modems are available on the major ftp sites.
b) If you are using MacTCP to connect through the Internet, select Outland TCP Tool from the Method popup menu. Our host name is dover.outland.com, port 4000. Your Mac must have a connection to the Internet that supports MacTCP, which must be already installed and configured.
2. Click on the Connect button.
3. During the account creation process, you will be asked for either a credit card number or disk serial number. We are not requiring credit card numbers during the testing phase. You can enter any 13 or 16 digit number for the card number, and any 4 digit number for the expiration date.
USING THE GATEWAY
After you have configured the Connection Settings, select Connect from the File menu or from the button on the title screen. If you are using a modem, it should now dial. If all is working correctly, you will be connected to the Outland network. Upon connection, you will be prompted for your account and billing information.
Once in Outland, you may use the Outland Gateway to change your player password, name, and description. Your player name is the name people will see in the various Outland games. You cannot change your account name. To look at the player information of another person, you will need to enter that person's account name.
From the Gateway, you will see a list of the applications available. To run an application, double click on its name.
